Emu oil aids in cell regeneration which makes it an effective topical treatment for burns, wounds, and bruises. Where emu oil is applied to wounds, incisions and burns, minimal scar tissue is formed during the healing process, therefore, burn victims may need little or no skin grafting, according to numerous studies.

Emu oil helps to flatten keloid scarring, which is caused by an excessive deposition of collagen scar tissue resulting in raised tissue in humans. In animals it is commonly called "proud flesh". Even established scar tissue can be reduced by regular application of emu oil. It thickens the skin around the wound or incision so elasticity is restored as it blends in better with the surrounding undamaged skin.
