Seborrhea is a disease of the sebaceous (oil) glands, marked by an increased secretion of sebum (oil). It can cause or aggravate acne and blackheads. The increased oil production is usually accompanied by a scaly thickened skin, especially on the scalp. The size of the eruption, the texture of the oil, and the flaky skin are what differentiate seborrhea from acne. It is mostly seen at the sides of the nose, eyebrows, eyelids, behind the ears, scalp and the middle of the chest. Babies are susceptible to a type of seborrhea commonly known as "cradle cap". Recent studies show this skin disorder can be caused by a yeast like organism in the hair follicle.

Due to its ability to unclog pores, help normalize oil production, and discourage microbial growth, emu oil is very effective at helping relieve the symptoms of seborrhea. Apply to affected area 3-4 times a day. For the scalp massage emu oil into the skin, let it penetrate for about an hour then gently shampoo.
